Episode # 195 : Provisioning for an Ocean Passage

Hello Friends,
As we finished up all the last things that had to happen before departure date the biggest chore still left to do was provision for 30+ days at sea.

On this episode we talk about what we bought and take you along to do the shopping. In the store it finally became real to James that he would be leaving in a few days and the excitement started to set in.

SEASON 6 / The Haul Out : Episode #130 : Flying the Engine and Installing the Tube

Hello Friends!

On this weeks episode we start out by thanking out Patrons for their continuing support! THANK YOU! We also thank our Super Chat contributors from the live stream last Friday!

Camille and myself both had to return to LA to work for a few weeks to pay for all of the budget over runs that had occurred. We were both working as Art Department on an Old Navy photo and video shoot on Universal Studios Movie Lot and in a Studio in Hollywood (see the bloopers for clips from my absurd day job)

While we were away the yard fabricated our new bronze stern tube and I agreed to pay them to install it. When they dry fit the new part with the prop shaft that found that the engine was very much off alignment with the new set up and called me. Long Story short I ended up having them wait until I returned and I flew the engine up and modified the engine mounts and aligned the engine myself.

After all was ready Tom from VHBY came by to create the stern tube "Bed" and it was an incredible learning experience for me! I am very grateful they let me work alongside them as assist and teach me the secrets of bedding with epoxy and release tapes.

Season 4 | Episode 63 | Sailing home to Los Angeles

On this episode we say farewell to Cat Harbor. Its time to get back to real life so we drop the mooring line and point out to sea. Motorsailing through the rolling swells as we enjoy the beautiful cliffs of Catalina Island. Passing "Ribbon Rock" then the iconic "Eagle Rock" we made our way past the West End and soon we were under sail alone.

The sun came out and we sailed wing and wing on what little breeze we had. Smiling all the while.

We had a lovely quiet sail home with the only excitement being refueling at sea in the dark as I didn't want to risk running out of fuel near Angels Gate Lighthouse.

Just like that another amazing trip is in the books. We visited a new Island and stayed at two new anchorages I had never been to. I always want to visit new places when I sail if at all possible so I was very happy with how I trip turned out.

Lots of firsts for Camille on this trip, Her first time sleeping on a boat, her first long sailing passage, her first anchoring experiences and her first time snorkeling.

Lots more to come... Our next set of adventure videos will be of a trip Camille, Mr. Steady (Her blue heeler) and myself took to Catalina for New Years Eve.

Thanks again to all of our Patrons!!!!

Until Next Week,
James & Camille & SV Triteia

Season 8 : The Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #215

On this weeks episode I wake up at the very protected and peaceful anchorage of Pokai Bay. I make my way ashore and check out the town and enjoy lunch on an open veranda with a clear view of Triteia sitting under anchor.

I also visited the Kū'īlioloa Heiau that is just south of Pokai Bay on Kane'ilio Point. Kū'īlioloa Heiau is the ancient Heiau, Temple in Hawaiian, for Navigation and sea voyages.

Once back at my dinghy I found a note from the harbor master from the Wai'anae telling me I had overstayed the 72 hour time limit (this was only my 3rd day there). After speaking with him on the phone and voicing my concerns about the high wind event that was coming he allowed me to stay until the front passed.

After this drama was dealt with I enjoyed amazing snorkeling along and outside the breakwater at Pokai Bay.

SEASON 6 / The Haul Out : Episode #132 : THE SPLASH! and an offering to Poseidon

Hello Friends!

I thought the day would never come! After 5 weeks on the water (I thought we would be out for 5 days) and an inconceivable amount of work we finally splashed Triteia with only moments to spare before the boat yard shut down for Christmas Holiday!

It was a VERY stressful moment for me when she was back floating again, hoping I had done everything correctly, many of the jobs, like installing thru-hulls and patching large holes, I had never done before so I was TERRIFIED to say the least. Turns out I did everything the right way and she was happily watertight.

After we were floating and all the seacocks were checked and triple checked Camille made an offering to Poseidon with a bottom of Rum given to us by our friends Shane and Brook the day we were hauled out.

On next weeks Episode Camille, her best friend Andre and myself Sail the boat home!

Hello Friends,
On this episode we sail to Refuge Bay and hike up to the top of a water fall and cool off in its small but deep pools. We are treated to a remarkable sunset whose beauty can not be truly captured in photos of video!

We then head over to Coasters Retreat and see our first wild wallaby since arriving to Australia! We soon saw many more who were all use to humans and didn't mind us getting a closer look.

Season 5 Episode 101: Fort Bragg to Monterey, California

On this weeks episode we explore under the docks at Fort Bragg looking for otters and come across a large bin of dead urchins. After our smelly adventures we return to the boat, untie and push off at high tide.

We soon find ourselves in an active sea with wind waves left over from the blow that forced us into Fort Bragg. By mid-afternoon the seas had increased dramatically and the winds had stepped up to 20 knots with gusts of 30 knots. The NOAA buoy app showed the waves to be 10ft - 13ft. Running with them we regularly were surfing at 14 knots.

This continued into the night slowly stepping down and by morning we were pulling into a glassy Monterey Bay.

If this is the first Yacht Delivery Chronicles video you have seen heres a little bit of background of what this Season and miniseries is all about. This new season follows James and Camille on a delivery onboard a 74ft Power Yacht they were hired to crew on under then command of Captain Dave Stovall. The delivery which was planned for 9 days took 16 days due to failing boat systems and rough spring weather on the coast of the Pacific Northwest.

Hello Friends,

Hello Friends!

Here is the 2nd part of the Chart Table Installation video! We FINALLY got it done and installed.... (now to finish both switch panels and complete the new nav station).

Thanks to Camille and Mr. Steady (the Australian Cattle Dog) for helping me out to get this job all done !

I want to also thank my friend Paul Forney for helping me cut the Europly, I was so worried about chipping it I called on my friend paul, who is an amazingly talented fabricator, to help me out.

I didn't shoot much video of me making the chart table itself because I wasn't making some masterful work of art, just a simple chart table and I know there are LOADS of great wood working videos out there that will do a better job of showing you how to go about building one, but if you have any questions about how I did mine feel free to him me up in the comments.

In many of my past project videos my viewers has noted that they enjoyed how much of the process / struggle I left in, as some other channels just do quick edits and its all done.... I leave in longer edits of some of the struggles and of the successes.

Hello Friends,

I made this video to clear up a common misconception about sailing channels on YouTube videos; Most are not released in realtime.

I talk about the reason that is, why there needs to be a time delay and a buffer and how when you are sailing in remote places its simply is not possible to release videos at or near realtime.

On this episode of Sailing Vessel Triteia I cut access ports in the old diesel fuel tank and clean out the sludge that had been living inside for years. I had contacted fuel polishing services about cleaning it while in place but the cost was more than buying a new tank. I decided to take it out, cut an access hole and clean the tank myself.

After the cuts and cleaning are done I get to painting the starboard lazarette.

I hope you enjoy this episode and if you do please give it a “thumbs up”!

On this episode of Sailing Vessel Triteia I prepare the decks for paint and lay down the first coat of Topside paint ( http://amzn.to/2BE2pM7).

Taping it off was super tedious but I got the job done and it made a WORLD of difference! I still need to do some nonskid I think because when the deck is wet its as slippery as ice. I have tons of footage of me putting her back together but that might be to boring for its own episode so we shall see.

I hope you enjoy this episode and if you do please give it a “thumbs up”!

On this episode of Sailing Vessel Triteia I get to the bottom of things and tackle the task of cleaning the bottom of my 1965 Alberg 30 that has not been cleaned in over 6 years.

After a long days battled and only getting half done I called in reinforcements and my little brother comes down to the boat with his scuba gear and helps me finish the job.

Big props (well, my prop is actually very small but saying "small props" doesn't sound very grateful) to my brother Colby for coming out and helping me finish, not sure I could have done it with just snorkel gear!

Thanks for all your comments and likes on the first episode! many more to come!

SEASON 6 / The Haul Out : Episode #119 : Bottom Preparations

On this episode we get into the fun and brutal task of sanding the bottom. We had wanted to water blast the bottom down to gel coat or fiberglass but that is something that has to be done by the yard for environmental reasons and we had no were near the budget for such a task so we chipped off all the loose bits and sanded the entire bottom.

I also show you how I went about filling the old knot meter hole on the boat with G10 fiberglass board. If you don't know about G10 you should look into it, this stuff is magic!

After a long hard day of sanding a tipsy Camille decided to document our shower experience. :)
