We're overwintering in the ice in Greenland. Here's one of the ways we deal with the ice.

We'll spend the full winter (around 5-6 months) here, until the ice melts in May/June. Footage for this video shot in Jan/Feb 2025.

Season 8 : Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #212

On this weeks video I get my custom stainless steel tangs back from the fabricator here in Honolulu and dive on the boat to complete the jury repair of Triteia's broken rudder. Thanks to Sarah for handing me everything I needed and being dock support as well as filming.

The repair took a total of 3.5 hours and gave me a new found respect for old timey shipwrights. Hammering under water is very hard work and using a hand drill while scuba diving was not a skill I can say I had before this project.

Now Triteia is ready for more adventure with her frankenstein rudder!

Very pleased to announce my latest book is now available for purchase.

The Logs From The Good Ship Triteia; The Prose and Cons of a Sea Voyage.

Author: James Frederick
Publication Date: November 23rd, 2021
Pages: 258
Formats: Perfect Bound + Ebook
Language: English
ISBN: 9781088005392
ISBN-10: 108800539X

You can buy the print copy here: https://www.barnesandnoble.com..../w/the-logs-of-the-g

Or buy the eBook version here: https://books.apple.com/us/boo....k/the-logs-of-the-go

About the Book:

This book is the complete collection of the logs that were written in real-time during a ill-fated 32 day passage on Los Angeles, California to Honolulu Hawaii on the 30 foot sloop, SV Triteia.

These entries first appeared as blog posts on Triteia's satellite tracking page by the ships captain James Frederick. Friends of Triteia, family and loved ones tuned in daily to see the ships progress and read the logs to see how life on board was going.

On day 14, August 26th, Triteia's rudder failed and the captain and his ship found themselves adrift in the middle of the biggest ocean on the planet.

After the passage was complete and The Good Ship Triteia and her captain were safely tied up at Ala Wai Harbor. The messages started flooding in about how both friends and strangers alike had become transfixed with the tracker and the updates some described it like reading a pulp serial except that it was non-fiction and no one knew how the story would end,,,, not even the writer.

For this 258 page, perfect bound 6"x 9" paper back edition we have included 121 full color photographs printed on premium paper. Printed on demand by Ingram Spark Printing House.

This book is print on demand and the printer requires up to 13 business days to print so please understand if the book takes a few weeks to arrive to you.

On this episode Colby and myself dive on the ship wreck Valiant at Avalon. This was my first wreck dive and a life long dream come true.

After the dive the Harbormaster was on me about getting off the mooring so I made way and had a nice sail home, I even saw a small shark and a large sunfish!

Make sure you also check out the latest episode of "A Stern View Podcast" on iTunes. I talk about my experiences at Avalon under mooring, how to get a slip and what to expect.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the comments, I hope you enjoy this episode!!!!

Hello Friends,

Now that we have finished up the first half of Season 7 where we anchored all around Catalina Island for 10 days I thought it would be good to make a few videos demystifying anchoring for anyone who has never anchored and wants to expand their cruising grounds.

As I mention in the video this is at the "Quick and Dirty" version almost like the "Cliffs Notes" of what you NEED and NEED to know. In this video I explain what Ground Tackle is and how important it is to understand Scope and what to do if you find yourself dragging anchor.

I will be doing a longer versions that might be a few episodes getting deeper into Anchors, Rode, Anchorages, Techniques and more.

Here are the links for things discussed in the video:

Episode 414 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia

Hello Friends,
On this episode I show you around Medana Marina on the Northern coast of Lombok. I really like this small marina and its simple boat yard. If it had been possible to get quality boat parts in Indonesia I would have done a lot of work at this spot. A great option if you find yourself having to wait out the wet season in Indo.

| Season 2 | Episode 20 |

This episode finds us at Cueva Valdez Anchorage where after dragging anchor in the night and having trouble getting my engine started to reset the hook I made my way over to the lobster boat Miss Mae and was greeted with a warm welcome and some life saving motor oil!

After which I explored the sea caves ashore and prepared to head out to my next anchorage.

The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins.

While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage.

I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes.

The journal and Podcast can be seen and heard here: http://svtriteia.com

If you like the podcast please subscribe to it on iTunes and rate / review it as it helps in the ratings! Please reach "A Stern View" in iTunes!

I have started a new short video series titled Sea Stories that are only available for my Patrons. If you would like to contribute you can do so here https://www.patreon.com/sailorjames

Also if you like this video please give it a thumbs up! It helps me get more viewers!

Thanks to all of you for watching and being so supportive with your comments and likes! It makes me really happy to know you like the videos and to hear your feedback.

Fair Winds,
Sailor James

Ahoy Friends!

Here is another one of my project throw back videos. In this video you get to see me go through all of the steps of removing the factory Ice Box from my 1965 Alberg 30. The chart table and nav station will later occupy the space this outdated Ice Box originally lived in.

I make this project videos slow so that for anyone who would like a better look at this sort of project for their own boat can know what to expect. I like watching slow moving videos of people working on projects so thats what I have made here for you all of you who are also like me in that regards.

The next video I will show you guys how to install a GPS/AIS antenna in the stern rail... but until then I hope you get the some "ice ice baby" stuck in your head all day long.

thanks for watching!

Until next time,
Sailor James

Season 5 Episode 102: Monterey to Marina del Rey

We are BEYOND excited to bring you this episode this week because its the LAST EPISODE of our Yacht Delivery Chronicles "MV DRAGON LADY" season!!!!!!

What a wild ride its been! We are looking forward to getting back to actual sailing videos and videos of us refitting SV Triteia!

On this episode we explore the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and spend sometime on Cannery Row before pushing off for our last passage of the delivery! Captain Dave's wife and James' old friend Samantha drove up from LA to join us on this last leg of the trip.

We had a wonderfully uneventful night and were greeted with countless whale sightings at sunrise near Point Conception. Camille took in the Southern California sun with some nude sunbathing on the upper deck and we were happy to feel its warmth after so much time in the Pacific Northwest.

But Poseidon had one more treat in store for us. Less than two hours from home we ran into a massive fog bank slowing our pace to a crawl and forcing us to steer by radar alone the rest of the way in.

If this is the first Yacht Delivery Chronicles video you have seen heres a little bit of background of what this Season and miniseries is all about. This new season follows James and Camille on a delivery onboard a 74ft Power Yacht they were hired to crew on under then command of Captain Dave Stovall. The delivery which was planned for 9 days took 16 days due to failing boat systems and rough spring weather on the coast of the Pacific Northwest.
