Episode 394 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we explore Lizard Island. We knock out some laundry at a hand pump in a field, little house on the prairie style, before hiking up to where Captain Cook stood desperately searching for a way out of the Great Barrier Reef after repairing the Endeavour at Cooktown. The views from the top were out of this world!
The next day we hiked over to the lagoon side of the island and I enjoyed some fantastic snorkeling!
I hope you enjoy this latest adventure as we begin to close out our time in Australia

Welcome to YARNS; Conversations with Cruisers, A Sailing Podcast
James Frederick sits down with sailors he meets around the world to record their seas stories in remote anchorages and far-flung ports. All the interviews are recorded as a video podcast that is released on the Sailing Triteia YouTube Channel. They are also being made available as an audio podcast for those who prefer this format of content.
On this episode I interview Dave & Jaja Martin about their wild life of sailing a modified Cal 25 around the world and starting a family during the circumnavigation. With the arrival of their third child they upgraded to a steel 33ft boat, Driver, and headed for the arctic where whey over wintered in the ice year after year living in Newfoundland, Iceland, and the Lofoten Islands of Norway.
This interview was a special treat because it was the first time I have interviewed two generations of sailors in the same family. Their daughter Holly Martin @WindHippieSailing was on the podcast back in June of 2023 : https://youtu.be/gTMg8n-s0_U
Thanks again to the Martin Family for having me over to your beautiful home for dinner and to spin some yarns and thanks to Holly for making it happen.

Episode #278 : Season 9 : The South Pacific
Hello Friends,
On this episode I leave the protected lagoon that surrounds Raiatea and Taha'a and make way for Bora Bora. Just outside of the pass I encounter a large pod of sleeping pilot whales who pay me little mind. I had mellow motorsail until coming into the pass at Bora Bora when I am hit by a squall in the worst possible location.

Episode 373 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia
Hello Friends,
On this episode I teach you how to sail onto and off of anchor. This is a process every sailor should know how to do and be practiced at because at some point you will find yourself without the ability to relay on your engine whether it be from engine failure or bad fuel, a line around your prop or a dead battery.
If you practice this every chance you get, it will make "having" to do it far less stressful.

Welcome to Season 3 of my channel!
On this episode we go to Sweden to prepare my friend Neil Fletcher's 1966 Allied Seabreeze, SV Arcturus for her cruising season in the Stockholm and Åland archipelagos.
The next nine or so videos will follow my time on board SV Arcturus as we explore the Åland Islands and beyond. We sail into cities, tie up on small islands, anchor bows to and ride out a blow before heading back to Sweden. I hope you will follow along with us on the trip.

Hello Friends,
On this weeks episode I get a visitor from the mainland ! One of my oldest and dearest friends from LA and a member of my shore team, Sarah, came out to explore Oahu with me for 5 days.
As soon as she arrived we picked up the rental car and headed for the rainforest!
We visited the Manoa Falls Trail and hiked through pouring rain to the waterfall through lush rainforest.
Sarah is a singer and a song writer and I have included a video of her performing at my mothers ranch in 2012 at the end of this episode: please visit her band camp page here - https://sarahsatya.bandcamp.com

Season 4 | Episode 81 | Sailing off the anchor and diving on the prop near Catalina Island
On this episode we haul up the anchor at Button Shell Beach so we can make our way to a new, hopefully friendlier, anchorage further North.
While we were fighting to haul up the 80lbs of 3/8 chain and 35lb anchor in 70 ft of water our long painter line found its way into our propeller and "Prop'ed" us leaving us with no engine, an anchor that was half way up after a hard struggle very near to the rocks.
We hoisted the sails and sailed away from land with the light breeze that was coming off the island and made our way to deeper water to finish hauling up the anchor.
Watch the episode to see Camille dive on the prop and get us back under way as we find a new incredible anchorage near Little Gibraltar.
There is also a new episode of A Stern View Podcast up where we talk about our experiences at Button Shell Beach....Find that on our website or on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts !
Thanks again to all of our Patrons, We are very grateful for your support!

Episode 397 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia
Hello Friends,
On this episode we clear into Indonesia using a local agent named Kim. Kim made the entire process very easy and it went super smooth compared to horror stories we had heard of people using local street agents.
Legally you are not "required" to use an agent, but we had friends try and clear in by themselves at Tual and the quarantine officer refused to clear them in without an agent.
Once cleared in we went for a wander to see this completely different way of life than the one we live and are accustomed to!

Season 7 : Episode #149 : Diving at Little Fisherman's Cove and Welcoming our friends
Hello Friends,
On this weeks episode we explore Little Fisherman's Cove below the water. With great visibility we swim through some kelp forests and find someones lost anchor and see their chain wrap around a large rock. We also found a 5 foot long shark sleeping in a nest of kelp and saw a ton of horn sharks.
In the afternoon our friends John and Alanna arrived from Santa Barbara onboard their Beneteau Oceanis 40 SV Felurian. You will be seeing more of them in the next few episodes as we spend a few anchorages together on Catalina Island.

Episode #179 - Cutting up my own boat
Hello Friends, This is a throwback project video from the summer of 2020 when we started the massive project of redesigning and rebuilding our head.
One of only two real weaknesses of Alberg 30s is on the early models the laminated deck beam below the mast can delaminate and allow the rig to go slack and possibly dismast (the other known weakness is undersized chainplate bolts)
To solve this problem I installed a compression post under the mast and moved the pass-through to the V-Berth to starboard. This also allowed us to be able to enclose the head and turn it into a “wet head” so we could install a shower
This first episode in that saga covers me cutting out the bulkheads and Camille installing the compression post.

Episode 327 : Season 10 : New Zealand - Aotearoa
Hello Friends,
On this episode I leave my guest slip at Whangārei Town Basin Marina and make a 40NM passage to Omaha Cove where I only spend one night before continuing on to Bon Accord Anchorage on Kawau Island.
I wanted to cover a lot of miles ahead of an approaching weather system and get into the protection of Kawau Island. The rains arrived as the approached the narrow pass between the island and the mainland. I found a safe spot to anchor and settled in for a few days stay.
