Episode #204 : Public Moorings at Redondo Beach

Hello Friends,

My next installment of "A Boater's Guide" series where I explain what to expect when visiting Harbors and Ports as a guest boater.

Redondo Beach has the most extensive information of any of the harbors I have visited to date. All of the questions I had were answered before I arrived, a rare treat when visiting a new harbor: http://www.rbmarina.com/mooring-reservations/

Here is a link to the DOCKWA website, This is a great app to have on your phone for looking for a booking guest slips and mornings: https://dockwa.com/explore/des....tination/7ecmvr-redo

Season 5 - Episode 88 : Preparation and departure.

Welcome to Season 5 of our channel !
On this season we take you along with us on a yacht delivery we were hired to do helping take a 74ft power yacht from Seattle, Washington to Los Angeles, California. We are calling these "Yacht Delivery Chronicles" a series we will continue to make with future deliveries. This will give people a rare insight into what goes into a Yacht Delivery, both good and bad.

Our fearless leader (and old friend) Captain Dave Stovall was at the command ( https://www.instagram.com/captaindavestovall ) and the three of us had a wild ride.

There was an "Engineer" on board for the first week or so but the crew had a lot of conflict with him later on so we won't really focus on him.

On this first episode of the our new series we prepare the boat before departing on Seattles Lake Union and making our way through the Ballard Locks then on out into Puget Sound.

So give the episode a watch and see how things unfold.

Episode 396 : Season 12 : Sailing Australia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we FINALLY arrive to Cape York and anchor at Horn Island and prepare to leave Australia for good. We have several week's worth of battles with the post office at Thursday Island and we had a lovely experience clearing out with Border Force and customs.

During our time there we checked out the bush on Horn Island and were amazed by the large termite mounds. Here is a great documentary about the mounds: https://youtu.be/HGiDwN33WJo?si=D5sIFioNOEVMemLK

Episode # 196 : A Change of Course

Hello Friends,

Here is the story of my ill fated attempt at solo sailing our 30ft sailboat Triteia to the Hawaiian Islands.

We had pushed hard to finally live land life behind and were 2 months behind our planned departure date due to parts shortages and unexpected complications with getting our new mast installed. Our original cruising plans were for James to sail solo to Hawaii then continue on to Alaska where Camille and Mister Steady would come on board. All of the delays and the advancing summer season gave us a very tight time window on making this dream come true. This resulted in not enough time to throughly sea trail the windvane....

After days of beating into 20-30 knot winds, my self steering Windvane began to work its self loose from the boat. The threads in the housing of the windvane itself failed which presented the possibility of losing the vane into the sea or WORSE possibly damage the transom of the boat due to the massive loads placed on this gear at sea. Impossible to fix underway I made the hard call and came about and abandoned my attempt for Hawaii.

Could I have lashed the windvane and continued on? Possibly yes but my concern was once I made it to Hawaii would I get stuck in Hawaii if the vane was not able to be repaired? I also had to consider there is no quick exit from Hawaii. It is 3 weeks or a month sail from Hawaii to anywhere on the West Coast of the North America.

I had not 1 but 2 electronic "Tiller Pilots" as a back up and for coastal cruising in light winds but these units are, strangely enough, Not waterproof and tend to burn out very easily. So I wasn't without redundancies but anyone who goes ocean sailing knows that a windvane is the most critical gear on the boat especially so for a solo sailor.

So as with all things sailing, one must be flexible and willing to change course when necessary.

Episode 403 : Season 13 : Sailing Indonesia

Hello Friends,
On this episode we make way for Wakatobi National Park and arrive to drop the hook in the very deep anchorage of Hoga Island. The snorkeling at Hoga Island was absolutely incredible! A steep cliff side of dense healthy coral, that would be mind blowing to dive on! The (small) fish life and coral in Indonesia is truly remarkable, It is what I assume the now mostly dead Great Barrier Reef was like in the 1970s.

Back on board Triteia we headed over to what looked like a pristine white beach, but when we arrived saw it was just like every other beach and shoreline in Indonesia; covered in plastic trash.

Hello Friends,

After an amazing 9 months in Hawaii I pointed Triteia's bow for the Southern Cross and sailed to French Polynesia. The passage video will premiere on September 12th, exactly 1 year to the day of my arrival to Oahu after my ill-fated passage.

This video will start Season 9 : The South Pacific Adventures and I cant wait to show you everything I have seen in the South Pacific.

Hello Friends,
On this episode I haul up from Kawau Island and make way to the Whangaparāoa peninsula where I meet up with Zhané and with Ian and Laura of SY RaLa at Arkles Bay. The following day (April 11th) was my birthday so me and Zhané hauled up and sailed for Tiritiri Matangi, a small island that is a scientific reserve. We had an amazing time seeing so many incredible birds.

As a storm approached we sailed back into the lee off the peninsula and meet up with SY RaLa who had gone into Gulf Harbor to get some repairs done.

Greetings from Isolation Station Triteia! Happy to report that I can still get delicious local craft beer during this pandemic (supporting our small local businesses and keeping in good spirits!). I decided to do a head to head of Brouwerji West's classic Popfuji, and its seasonal dry hopped sister, Hopfuji. Grab a beer, get cozy and see how they compare. We'll even take a dinghy ride with the winner. Hope you enjoy this first of several pandemic time beer reviews, and keep an eye out for my LIVE Beers on a Boat, coming soon :p
Cheers!

Hi hi,

This time I've got a hoppy golden from The Bruery. They're located in Orange County and known for their sours and barrel aged brews. This one had a very Belgian base and a nice hop bitterness for what the beer was...but honestly I don't think it was quite my style. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So lets crack one open and hang out on Triteia and see what else I thought of this "MISCHIEF". https://www.thebruery.com
