A full beam master aft allows for ample room for the cruising couple, Plus an additional spacious stateroom forward. The Beneteau 49 was the first of the 'new generation' of Beneteaus that carried the beam all the way to the stern, creating a spacious interior and an enormous cockpit. Wonderful for a family or a large crew. The large, fixed windows in the coachroof and the hull-sides were designed to allow a lot of light down below and numerous hatches and opening ports provide good ventilation. The flat bottom, wide beam gave this generation of boats phenomenal sailing characteristics in that they sail fast, but flat. Heeling too much? Reduce sail, straighten up a bit and keep moving, faster than before.
