The 2019 ORCV Latitude Ocean race has now concluded and as we'd planned, all boats were finished within an hour of each other. Line Honours, 1st and the Ian McKenzie Perpetual Trophy went to John Straham and crew on his Bavaria 44, True Colours 2nd to Andrew Middleton on Rozinante II, a Cavalier 350sl 3rd to Glenn Fitzgerald and crew on Summer Lease a Beneteau Oceanis 55.1 The Latitude Ocean Race is open to anyone to join although this year it was the finish to many months of training, where Beyond the Bay participants work with ORCV mentors and undertake both an extensive series of theory and practical sessions gaining skills in practical navigation both manual and electronic, sea survival techniques and then how to transit safely Port Phillip Heads, venturing we hope into Bass Strait and beyond with confidence now. With all we do, it's always Safety at Sea with the ORCV and it's programs and races like this, that we hope more will come and join us, gaining confidence with being on the ocean.
