► Full test in Multihulls World #202: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/excess-13-is-the-range-getting-its-second-wind► We were able to take advantage of ten knots or so of wind off La Grande-Motte to finally test the Excess 13. The new Lombard design proved to be quite comfortable in these light conditions: it glided along at over 7 knots under gennaker and was just begging to stretch out its two wakes behind it. The Excess 13 was undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited World Premieres at La Grande-Motte... this model is indeed unlike any other, starting with the fact that it bears a somewhat risky name – but we love it! And almost as a punchline to complete the joke, 13 units were sold on the opening day of the show... More seriously though, the main new thing about this catamaran is the signature it bears. The Lombard design team has been at work here, in collaboration with Jean Marc Piaton for the interior design. We discovered a nacelle of contained volume (as evidenced by the very wide side-decks), a galley that opens onto the cockpit, and fold-down sugarscoops. We like the futuristic design of the davits and the imposing span of the folding helm seats and the airy design of their protective biminis. Also noteworthy is a water recovery system on the coachroof, easy-access circuit breakers (at last) in a dedicated locker, and cabin doors that double as closet doors. ► Full test in Multihulls World N°202: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/trimaran/dragonfly-36-performance-for-gliding-along-as-fast-as-the-wind ► We had the opportunity to sail aboard the Dragonfly 36, recently elected Multihull of the Year in the Sail Performance category, in the company of Jens Quorning, the head of the shipyard which bears his name. This trimaran, in its Performance version (with a rig that is over six feet / 2 meters taller) is undoubtedly a fast and enjoyable multihull to sail. Without too much effort, you can be sailing at the windspeed... In terms of design, the 36 is the first Dragonfly to feature three inverted bows - until now, the central hull has always retained a traditional bow shape. Below deck, the new interior design features double cabins forward and aft, a separate bathroom, a fully equipped galley and a spacious saloon. The standard finish is in ash, with elm as an option. Like all Dragonfly models, this trimaran can be folded thanks to its optimized Swing Wing system. It takes just 1 minute and 30 seconds to reduce the width from 26’8” (8.12 m) down to 12’2” (3.7 m). As for the pivoting appendages, they make it very easy to take the ground, as we were able to see for ourselves. By the end of the International Multihull Show, the shipyard had already taken 27 orders, representing more than two years’ worth of production... ► Full test in Multihulls World N°202 : https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/catamaran/new-41-an-attractive-catamaran-designed-to-be-accessible ► While this new model is the replacement for the Isla 40, it offers a volume equivalent to that of the Astrea 42, and all for a relatively tight price... You guessed it, the New 41, whose real name we’ll soon find out, is positioned from the outset as one heck of a challenger in the 40-foot market. This model, which we discovered exclusively at La Rochelle, proved to be gentle at the helm, very pleasant to live aboard and easy to handle. It features the brand’s signature dual helm/sail maneuvering station, a large sun-lounging area on the bimini and another one forward of the coachroof, a large surface area of solar panels (producing 2 to 2.3 kWp), a large opening hatch at the forward end of the nacelle and slightly angled aft berths. The boat we tested was equipped with an electric powertrain, which enabled us to cruise as far as the island of Ile d’Aix without generating any carbon emissions. As standard, the internal combustion option remains available. MOJO is hull 51 of the popular German Frers-designed Hylas 54. Considered the benchmark blue-water cruiser, the Queen Long built Hylas Yachts have a storied history of over 30 years of continuous production under three generations of family ownership.
