141-metre converted superyacht YAS from above Originally built in 1981 by the Koninklijke Schelde shipyard for the Royal Dutch Navy, tshe began her life as the frigate HNLMS Piet Hein (F 811). After more than twenty years in active naval service, she was sold to the United Arab Emirates in 1998 and renamed Al Emarat (F 02), continuing her military duties until her retirement in 2006. Following her decommissioning, the ship embarked on a transformation at ADM Shipyards in Abu Dhabi that was completed in 2015, emerging as Yas, a 5,002 GT superyacht distinguished by her dolphin-inspired profile and futuristic glass-domed superstructure conceived by Pierrejean Design Studio. Today, Yas can host up to 60 guests along with 56 crew, blending naval heritage with modern luxury.@superyachttimes

Welcome to Navel Gazing at Camp David Shorts. In this fascinating short, we delve into the intricate physics that allows sailboats to seemingly defy the wind by sailing upwind. How is this possible? It's all about understanding the fundamental principles that govern sailing dynamics. From the Bernoulli principle to the concept of apparent wind, we'll break down these complex ideas into easy-to-grasp concepts. Whether you're a sailing aficionado or a curious mind, this short will give you a glimpse into the art and science of sailing. For those of you looking to expand your knowledge, consider reading 'Sailing for Dummies' by J.J. Isler and Peter Isler, Wiley, published in 2017, which provides a beginner-friendly guide to all things sailing. Alternatively, 'The Physics of Sailing Explained' by Bryon D. Anderson, released by Sheridan House in 2023, offers a deeper dive into the scientific aspects that make sailing possible. The J/111 is a new, high-performance, one-design sailboat. This sequence shows how this sailboat performs upwind in waves- a gentle motion with a knife-like entry into waves that does not slow the boat down.
