Despite its name, the #FlyingGurnard does not actually fly in the air like a bird or insect. Its specialised pectoral fins are actually enlarged and resemble wings. These "wings" are brightly coloured and have intricate patterns, making them visually striking. When threatened or startled, the Flying Gurnard spreads its pectoral fins wide open, creating the illusion of flight as it glides through the #water.
