Here in San Diego, we’re lucky to enjoy year-round sailing, with our crew hitting the water 7 days a week, all 12 months of the year. Southern California’s weather during January, February, and March is hard to beat—lately, we’ve been enjoying sunny days with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. One of the most common questions we hear this time of year is: "Will I get cold on the water?" The truth is, San Diego’s winter weather isn’t all that different from fall or spring.   Captain Dave’s Tip: Bring an extra layer—like a windbreaker or jacket—to stay comfortable during your sail. And don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with cozy blankets, especially when the sun begins to set on our Sunset Sails. Another reason to sail this season? It’s prime wildlife-spotting time! Hull #29, dating from 2012, has spent 4 months at the Monfalcone yard in Italy undergoing a full refit carried out by the builders themselves: structural and mast inspection, bulkhead rework, replacement of engines, sails, electrics, plumbing, electronics, headlinings, upholstery, etc. Nothing escaped the Lagoon experts! What’s more, the catamaran, repainted in Star & Stipes blue, is now equipped with solar panels, a lithium battery bank, low-energy air conditioning and a wastewater treatment system. The cost of this more than complete refit (there are four levels of packs) is in the order of € 800K for a unit that trades on the second-hand market for amounts from € 1.3M. This brings the total to € 2.1M, which compares with the cost of a new, fully-loaded Lagoon 60 at around € 3.2M. A substantial difference that could well attract players in the luxury charter market. Asmara is much more than just the name of our daily diving boat in Komodo. In Indonesian, Bahasa as the locals call it, Asmara means “love,” and that’s exactly how we feel about our work. This 18-meter boat has been designed specifically for diver comfort and safety so that you can enjoy the best Komodo tours. It was constructed by a fantastic team of local woodworkers (including our captain, Basir!) and you will see the love and care that they put into every detail. The boat is set up for a total of 14 divers plus staff and crew. You will be safe from the elements in our comfortable, enclosed cabin where coffee/tea are always available. On the roof, you will be able to take in the views of the Komodo National Park while lounging either in the sun or under the shade structure. Remember to bring coral safe sunscreen or we have local, sustainable sunscreen available for purchase in our shop. We also want you to experience a more environmentally friendly and responsible way of diving. The ocean and its health is our business so you won’t find single-use plastics anywhere on our boat or in our shop. We also offer vegetarian food as our primary meal option on our day trips in order to lower our environmental impact (other dietary needs can be met). Our goal in teaching is to transform you into a better and more conscious diver, always with safety as a priority.
