Here in San Diego, we’re lucky to enjoy year-round sailing, with our crew hitting the water 7 days a week, all 12 months of the year. Southern California’s weather during January, February, and March is hard to beat—lately, we’ve been enjoying sunny days with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. One of the most common questions we hear this time of year is: "Will I get cold on the water?" The truth is, San Diego’s winter weather isn’t all that different from fall or spring.   Captain Dave’s Tip: Bring an extra layer—like a windbreaker or jacket—to stay comfortable during your sail. And don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with cozy blankets, especially when the sun begins to set on our Sunset Sails. Another reason to sail this season? It’s prime wildlife-spotting time! Whale-watching season is happening NOW through mid-April.  Join one of our Whale-Watching Sails to catch gray whales in their natural habitat as they migrate south to Baja, California, right along our coastal waters.   We can’t wait to welcome you aboard for a relaxing and memorable winter sailing experience! 🌞🌊

When it comes to bluewater sailing, having a reliable sail furler is essential. Furling systems allow sailors to quickly and easily reef or unfurl sails as needed, even in adverse weather conditions. Let’s explore the different types of sail furling systems commonly found on bluewater sailboats and the factors to consider when choosing the right furler for your vessel. And, see what we did to compensate for our broken furler (used a different sail) while catching a glimpse of a whale and witnessing Enrique free climb the mast to loosen a halyard. The last two weeks have been a busy time for the new crew of Red Rocket. With a brave heart nothing impossible, they will have responded favourably to the call of the sea, and organized their life so far sedentary for a jump into the unknown. Who has never dreamed of swapping their existence for an unpredictable, sunny and salty adventure? Few of us have had a chance to put their daily lives in the wings, and turn their dream of family pilgrimage into reality. Our farmers in the Loire Atlantique will have managed to overcome all the difficulties inherent in a hasty departure for one year. The farm is in good hands for one year, Children already doing their homework on the square table of Red Rocket and the explorations in the Canaries can begin serenely. Before the first ambitious navigations, a technical tour of Red Rocket was necessary to discover its systems, its sails, the inventory and refuelling present on board, and of course the different communication systems that will connect them to land. Red Rocket can continue her journey serenely, in good hands!
