When you grow up surrounded by commercial fishing boats, you develop a very deep, sincere and genuine respect for these types of vessels. As a schoolboy, I used to watch fisherman head out to sea in some dreadful conditions...Some were lost at sea...Which is one of the reasons why, decades later, I volunteered for the RNLI in one of the busiest coastal S&R stations in the UK...If you love trawler, expedtion and explorer style motor yachts, then head to the link in my bio!

Instead of antifouling, we polish our prop to keep it clean and efficient. The process? Scrape off barnacles Dissolve calcium buildup with acid Polish with progressively finer compounds for a smooth finish ✨ Finally, we grease the prop, add a fresh zinc anode, and apply a final coat of Brasso before launch! Note, that this depends on the condition of your propeller. If it’s really fouled or previously painted, you might need a more thorough process - like we did last year. Drop us a comment, and we’ll send you the full how-to list! 🪩 Have you tried this method or want to try it out? Then safe it for later 📨 or do you swear by antifouling? Drop your thoughts below! 💭

Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them. Would you book a skipper so you can fully relax on vacation? More guests (and owners!) are choosing skippered charters, especially with our larger boats. No stress, only pure BVI bliss.

Want to support the podcast? http://patreon.com/SaltyAbandon Here is my engine after new fuel injectors installed, valves adjusted, as well as the following: new impeller and belt, new alternator belt, changed oil and filter, cleaned sea strainer, new fuel filters, and reinstalled air box and air filter. Going to run it 2 hours and change the oil again (because of the fuel that got into the oil). Still need to install new fuel lift pump. Still need to change the fuel lift pump. I realize not all of the items affected the problem but I'm mentioning them anyway for good measure. Sep 7-9, 2018. I was sailing from Orange Beach to Clearwater and onto who-knows-where. Fri, Sep 7th, leg was Orange Beach to Destin.  Sat & Sun leg was Destin to Clearwater (48 hour Gulf Crossing).  We had some engine troy ke after we left Destin. Seatow towed us 10 hours back to Orange Beach. 1988 Island Packet 27 in Orange Beach, AL Please subscribe to this channel.  I have two playlists:  Salty Abandon Full Length Episodes and Salty Quickies (this video is a Salty Quicky).
