To race around the world alone non-stop is pretty special and those that succeed enter an elite club. But when it comes to lapping the planet against the prevailing winds and currents, non-stop and alone the list stops way short of double figures. Last Christmas, solo sailor Guirec Soudée left France to set a new record and add his name to the gang, but his campaign took a very different approach. Instead of choosing a sturdy metal hulled monohull, Soudée and his team decided to take on the world in reverse with a fragile Ultim trimaran.
This week we are celebrating 5 years since we started working with the Polar Collective ❄️offering our ships as platforms of opportunity for research and raising awareness through citizen science. Today, we run 8 citizen science projects, a collaboration between scientists and the general public or communities, across our fleet. Helping the polar science community by collecting data in remote, polar locations…and beyond! Check out the video to see how we've helped so far! #shorts Since 1896, HX has led mindful expeditions to the world’s most extraordinary places. Today, we continue that legacy, taking curious adventurers to iconic destinations like Antarctica, Galápagos, Greenland and aboard our modern expedition ships. Join us and change the way you see the world. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HXExpeditions Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hxhurtigrutenexpeditions/ Website: https://www.travelhx.com/en/

Two new things today. First, a replacement for our much abused Makita drill which has given up. The grip on the chuck for changing drills was already worn to the point of being very hard to tighten or release, the motor has been struggling for a while too. So new, more powerful one with harder wearing metal parts. Plus the cutest little kettle for our Refleks stove. Now we don't need to use electricity (if we have the diesel stove on) to make tea/coffere or do the washing up :-) We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. We have a frequently updated blog at https://sustainablesailing.net with membership options and a weekly newsletter at £2 per month for Early Bird Supporters. Our free Sustainable Sailing book is at: https://sustainablesailing.codeberg.page/ Or visit our shop at https://sustainablesailing.teemill.com/ for great hoodies, t-shirts and bags. When we bought Vida in August 2019 she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all-electric (motor, cooking etc).
