A rip current is a narrow, fast-moving flow of water that moves away from shore through the surf zone. It forms because breaking waves continuously push water toward the beach. That water has to return offshore, and when it becomes concentrated through a deeper channel or gap in the breaking waves, it can create a strong seaward current. Rip currents do not pull you underwater. They carry you away from shore. If you are caught in one, do not swim directly against the current toward the beach. Move parallel to shore until you are out of the flow, then head back in. If you cannot escape, float, conserve your energy, and signal for help. #sailing #sailingschool #sea #ocean #beach

This is Wanagi She comes from the Standing Rock Soiux Nation. Cannon Ball North Dakota, She was born January 2017 and was found in a dumpster. I was at Standing Rock working as media for the Water Protectors at Standing Rock Fighting the NODAPL Endbridge Pipeline and Man Camps. I was sitting around the sacred fire offering tobacco and prayers a woman walked from out of the snow storm reached in herr jacket and handed me a 5 week old Mange covered pup she had just found in one of the camps dumpsters. Well I took one look into those eyes grabbed the pup and put her inside my coat where it was warm and dry. She lived next to my heart for the first month of her life. She has saved my life many times since and is now a Registrered Service Dog and helps me with instability and balance issues from my spinal injuries.

Anchoring is easy once you know how to do it. You find a spot that looks like good holding, drop the anchor while slowly backing the boat up (so the chain leads out rather than falling into a big clump). Once all the chain is out (5x the depth), you pull back using the engine to set the anchor into the seabed. As long as the anchor is holding while in reverse, you’re good to go!
