The new Swan 120: connecting and stretching boundaries Nautor’s Swan is delighted to introduce the new Swan 120 to the world. The shape of the Swan 120 reflects the elegance and style Frers brings to all his yachts, particularly Swan yachts, where their lines are instantly recognizable and make a statement in every harbour and on every ocean. From the stunning stem, with the typical Germán Frers sheerline, the hull lines sweep gently aft. From around the mid-point, the smooth rocker in the hull rises to a masculine stern with powerful, dynamic quarters above the waterline. The voluminous stern section will gain real attention when the yacht is at rest. The transom folds down hydraulically to form a teak-decked swim platform, the area becomes a large ‘beach-deck’, connected to a well-organized ‘hangar’ for maximum entertainment at anchor. In addition to the stern platform swinging down, a section of the aft-deck may be opened up to convert into a large sunbed at deck level. Within this graceful hull is an interior designed by renowned interior architect Misa Poggi. Two principal interior concepts have been conceived: Owner Aft and Owner Forward. As the wind and waves increased it is a wet ride for the jib trimmer down to leeward on our Mumm 36 racing yacht. As the spray pounds into his face it is all eyes on the leach of the sail, making minor lots of adjustments to allow the skipper to carve through the waves while keeping the speed on. The Mumm 36 loved the breeze and when she was setup correctly with lots of mast bend in the breeze she could power through most conditions without having to put a reef in the main. Continual minor trim adjustments where needed to keep the boat in the groove and make life easy for the skipper need to be in in tune with the changes to sail the boat fast. The team at bottom up boats loved the Mumm and the fun we had while racing her as hard as we could on strangford lough and beyond.
