When you think you are in the right direction... sometimes you realize that you have to take a step back, visit new options and redo part of your work. Removing our runners was a great idea, but surprisingly came with more unplanned modifications (major ones). It will all make sense once you start watching. Wish us luck! Step 1 — Introduce the mat Let your dog sniff it, reward any interest. Make it a positive place. Step 2 — Watch for potty signs Sniffing, circling, pacing — that’s your cue. Step 3 — Guide your dog to the mat Every single time. Keep your cue consistent: “go potty”. Step 4 — Reward immediately Praise during, treat right after. This is where the magic happens. Step 5 — Add a scent marker Put a tiny bit of your dog’s own pee on the mat the first days. It helps a lot. Step 6 — Build a routine Take your dog to the mat after sleep, food, play, and excitement. Step 7 — Transition to the boat Move the mat to its final spot onboard once the habit sticks. #dog #cutedog #sailingdog #circumnavigation #pottytraining
