Left the craziness of Khao San Central, and found a much nicer area of Bangkok to stay in - Wat Tha Phra. A neighborhood with tiny river canals, narrow alleys and almost no tourists. So could do what we love the most - walk for miles without much of a destination, catching a glimpse of the daily lives of local people.

Squall lines can quickly triple the amount of wind you’re dealing with and have the potential to do damage if you’re caught unprepared. Once the squall hits, preparation is over and it’s up to reactive seamanship skills. While your strategy should depend on many factors (your boat, sea conditions, proximity to land, etc.) here are a few things that are helpful in most circumstances: 1. Reduce sail area early. Considering dropping sails entirely depending on conditions. 2. Ensure the crew puts on proper gear such as Lifejackets, Foul weather jackets, tethers, etc. 3. Take note of where you are & where you were sailing to. Be aware of any nearby shoals or reefs. 4. Prepare for poor visibility. Turn on running lights, monitor VHF ch16, have an airhorn accessible, etc. What else would you add to this list?

Even the anchorage which was protected by two sea walls was rough, I filmed this inside the harbor heading from Monroe Harbor to the Chicago Lock. There were waves crashing and cascading on the outer seawall--wish I would have filmed them as the morning sunrise made them visible. With Cara on the sailboat, we need to go for regular walks. I take her out and about maybe 8 times a day or thereabouts. It’s a great excuse to do some exploring close to the marina. Our excursions take us further each time.
