A strong start today for the 49er teams at the Olympic qualifier in Lanzarote. Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove Team Dickson Waddilove 49er Ireland topped the Day 1 leader-board with Ryan Seaton and Séafra Guilfoyle Out2Win Ryan & Séafra placing an 11-8-8 for the day. Conditions off Playa Blanca in the straits between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura were very unpredictable in the fresh trade-wind conditions with added ocean swell. “It was very tricky with the wind coming off the mountains so a ‘head out of the boat’ day but all-in-all, a great start to the regatta,” commented James O’Callaghan, Irish Sailing’s Performance Director. “There’s a long way to go in this regatta but we couldn’t have asked for a better start.” We'll be posting updates here daily. Sorry for the shakey video. It'll get better! Better look at our living space/dining room/main hub. Both L&N like to paly it safe, so there are multiple fire extinguishers in the boat, in the shed, and ~60L of water in portable jugs as well. So far, no concerns, but with an enclosed space running welders, torchers, or grinders creates a lot of debris that could potentially cause an issue if we aren't paying attention.
