► Full test in Multihulls World Special Issue N°20 FOREVER GREEN N°2. ► In the spirit of their R4, Dutch-based builder Vaan Yachts are offering a new 49-foot catamaran. With construction still in recycled aluminum, this model is built using a maximum of recyclable materials that have sometimes already been recycled themselves, and/or are biosourced. Propulsion is provided by electric motors. The main innovation of the R5 is that there’s an option to choose a short or longer coachroof: the “Life-Aboard” version allows for a saloon of 320 sq ft (30 m²). In good weather, this area can be largely opened up. On the foredeck, you can opt for a lounge space or a large sunbathing area. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Builder: Vaan Yachts Material: aluminum Length: 49’ (14.95 m) Beam: 26’1” (7.94 m) Draft: 3’11” / 6’7” (1.2/2 m) with optional daggerboards Air draft: 78’1” (23.8 m) Mainsail: 860 sq ft (80 m²) Self-tacking jib: 485 sq ft (45 m²) Code 0: 1,290 sq ft (120 m²) Gennaker: 1,830 sq ft (170 m²) Drivetrain: 2 x electric saildrives ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! It’s been a bit quite. I’ve been really sick, as you can hear in this video😅 but here is one of my latest projects, not finished but hey… you gotta start somewhere! Little back story, I’ve had this huge solar panel sitting in my living area for over 2 months now, not connected just in my way. So I decided it’s time to get it installed but mounting on the canvas roof without damaging the canvas seems tricky, so I decided to build a hard top out of plywood and fiberglass and fit it onto the frame. Means I can easily mount the solar panel and other stuff like outdoor light and more fairy lights ✨ Thanks for the help As a complete newbie to the sailing world, I had no idea where to start my liveaboard life and I had so much to learn. But first things first. I bought a sailboat, an old wooden ex fishing boat, build for rough seas, 40 ft long and over 15t heavy. But before the sailing life begins I have to do a lot of work, from re caulking to placing planks and wood rot, repainting and anti fouling as well as turning the whole inside into a beautiful homely living space. Come along and help me figure out how to live on a boat and how to sail.
