This one did not go to plan. Rather than follow the crowd and go along with the Sail to Indonesia Rally fleet to Banda Nera, we intended to day hop along a series of islands from Kei Kecil to explore the remote and seldom visited northern coast of Seram in north western Indonesia but the weather didn’t play the game. After a first night stop at Pulau Kur where we were unexpectedly met by machete wielding youths, we struck out north for a short passage to an island where we had identified three likely looking anchorages. Unfortunately the wind and swell conspired against us making all of them untenable, so we elected to sail on through the night to a Plan B but, when it and then Plan C also didn’t work out, we were forced into coming up with a plan D. When we did finally find shelter add in getting summoned by local officials and having Police onboard and this episode makes for an interesting tale. We hope you enjoy it.

A tempestade chegou sem avisar, às 7h da manhã, e tentou jogar nosso barco contra uma frota inteira. Estávamos sendo arrastados com força total em direção aos outros barcos. Era bater ou agir. Martin segurou o timão para não batermos, arrastando a âncora com 60 metros de corrente no mar, enquanto eu lutava com o guincho que travou. Quatro meses na marina cobraram o preço em ferrugem bem na hora em que a gente mais precisava de agilidade. Peguei uma chave de fenda para forçar a corrente... ela estourou na minha mão. É nesses momentos que a gente percebe o quanto é pequeno diante da natureza. Com a âncora em cima, percebemos que estávamos cegos. O único aparelho com a carta náutica atualizada estava sem bateria, não podíamos nos mexer sem o Navionics, mas não podíamos ficar parados onde estávamos. Ficamos ali, ganhando tempo no motor enquanto o celular carregava os primeiros 5%. Foi o suficiente. Navegamos até essa baía protegida a sotavento onde estamos agora. A vida no mar é feita desses 1% de puro pânico que te ensinam os 99% de resiliência. Quem vê o Reels bonitinho não imagina o sufoco do “ao vivo”. ⛵️🔥 #vidaabordo #mar #veleiro #barco #tempestade
