Built in 1921, Florette is the last active, originally built brigantine in the Mediterranean and one of the last wooden windjammers that are still actively sailing. Join Florette for an Italian sailing holiday to explore the UNESCO heritage site of the Aeolian islands. From the active volcano of Stromboli to the typical Italian island of Lipari, experience the very best of this archipelago from the water. An unforgettable and versatile sailing holiday in Italy with daily trips ashore, offering a pleasant contrast to the social life on board. Experience the fiery Stromboli, the most active volcano in Europe on an adventurous night-time hike. Climb Vulcano slumbering in sulphur fumes and enjoy a healing bath in the sulphur mud afterwards before dipping into the bubbling sea. Or go hiking on the Salina island, known for its capers and sweet wine. Swim, snorkel and kayak in secluded bays with crystal-clear water and dark beaches made of fine, black lava sand. Florette and her crew always try to combine traditional classic sailing while immersing guests in the natural landscapes ashore; volcanoes, ancient culture and the specialities of the regional Italian cuisine. Whilst on board this historic brigantine guests can get involved with traditional sailing. With an original rig, it is certainly an all-hands on deck approach – which is surely part of the magic to this adventure sailing holiday! https://venturesailholidays.com/ship/florette/
Port Macdonnell is a relatively shallow bay facing the southern ocean and big swells creates a dangerous entry. After picking our path we surf a few waves before we get picked up by a larger breaking wave and end up surfing in at 21 KNOTS! We understand why we are the only sailing boat in the harbour. Although launches are traditionally intended to serve as tenders for large yachts, plenty of people will want to use the Launch 25 for day-trips, kicking around the bay, and even watersports. Our test boat had an unusually deep swim platform and one touch I really liked was the flush-mounted, pull-up grab handle back there. It'll make getting into and out of the boat a lot easier, but when pushed down, doesn't interrupt the smooth, sexy teak platform's eye-pleasing lines. To make day use more comfortable, Chris-Craft also builds a head into the port-side console. It's pretty cramped, which you have to expect on a boat of this size, and when you swing the door open it does hit the driver's side console. A rubber bumper would do wonders here, to prevent the smack of fiberglass on fiberglass. Inside, the head is once more a cut above. It has a sink—a rarity on a boat of this size—and the stereo head is mounted into the cabin-side, a smart way to keep it 100-percent protected from the elements. This part of the boat deserves a closer examination, which comes through a bit better in a visual form. So check out this short video of the passenger's side console and amidships area of the Launch 25.
