Part of doing an engine check before going out is to check the raw water strainer. Because the water is, well, raw. It is seawater that helps to cool the engine and move the exhaust out of the boat. Grass can show up in seawater, so can critters. We opened the strainer, and something popped out. I told Cindy, "Keep track of that spring!" Then the spring kept flopping around. WOW! Truckers would call the procedure a pre-trip. I never caught a fish while pre-tripping a truck.

One of our NSSC Sailability members, Jazz Turner, featured on BBC South East Today lunchtime news on leaving Brighton Marina at the start of her epic Project FEAR ("face everything and rise") journey. She is attempting to become the first female wheelchair user to complete a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the UK and Ireland. Jazz is raising money for the Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club (NSSC) Sailability fund. Her fundraising page can be accessed at the following link. *Fundraising page:* https://www.gofundme.com/f/project-fear *Journey tracker:* https://projectfear.uk/Expedition-Log/Tracking Aired on BBC South East Today lunchtime news on 02/06/2025. #newhavenandseafordsailingclub #sailability

The three entries in the CYCA’s Ponant Sydney Noumea Race headed out of Sydney Harbour under blue skies and a light variable breeze. Grant Wharington & Adrian Seiffert’s Wild Thing 100 with its new rig unsurprisingly led the fleet through the Heads followed by John Linton’s Llama II and Peter Elkington’s Pacman sailing double-handed with Scott Cavanough.
