On Sunday, 9 October 2016 racing was cancelled at Royals as gale force northerlies caused damage around Melbourne and the RYCV Marina. Winds of up to 46kts gusting to almost 60kts were recorded at Fawkner Beacon and peaked around 2.00pm, which resulted in several mooring lines letting go as yachts lurched around in the wind and up to one metre waves that lashed against the marina. Check out the start of the race: Boris Herrmann on Malizia - Yacht Club de Monaco starting the Bermudes 1000 race on 9th May 2019 at 5pm. There are 17 IMOCAs in this offshore race over 2000nm from Douarnenez to the Fastnet rock and then down to the Azores.
