We're Nick and Terysa and we’ve become completely obsessed with the idea of sailing around the world and sharing our experiences and information through our sailing lifestyle videos with others. We met travelling around India, and quickly agreed that rather than “settling down” and doing what most normal people do, we wanted to travel and have adventures! We moved onto our 38 foot monohull in 2014, sailed across the Atlantic twice, cruised the Caribbean, Bahamas and Europe, before buying a brand new 45 ft catamaran! We hope you enjoy what we do. UPDATE 9/11/18 - just in from Boris Best from the upwind bouncing bam bam bam. All good here so far.Liebe grüße Tech talk: I had broken a lashing between the mast and the block for the mast rotation purchase. I left the mast rotation loose as upwind it aligns itself usually pretty nicely. This morning around 4 the boat was suddenly starting to act weirdly. I checked the wind angle display but i was upwind, although the boat was jumping over the waves and reaching at 2 knots. Heeled over a lot. I felt quickly that it was wrong with the wind instruments. I switched on the B system and find out that was broken. No surprise that the wind vane on the top of the mast was damaged after all the slamming. My heart beat rises imagining sailing the rest of the race with no instruments like in the TJV. It means a big penalty in performance. To figure out what was going on i swapped over some elements and could find that on my main system only the mast angle sensor had broken, possibly as a consequence of leaving the mast rotation open. I repaired the lashing, adjusted the mast to this upwind angle and gave the instruments a manuel input for mast angle instead of the sensor. That way my A system is now fully up and giving nice wind data again. A small issue but in the darkness and upwind - slamming is quite annoying. So happy now that i still have one functional wind vane at the top of the mast and can sail with autopilot following the wind angle… that helps a lot! #sailing #PHRF #sailboatracing #CaptainQ #BoatFools #racingstories #sailboatlife Old Sailing Rivals Talk Smack Two old racing rivals. One rating system. Plenty of trash talk. ⚓😄 In this short, Captain Alan “Captain Q” Kew and Tristram Coburn revisit the good old days—when starting lines were crowded, egos were fragile, and PHRF ratings decided who really won the race. If you’ve ever wondered what PHRF (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet) means, or why sailors argue about it decades later, this one’s for you. Using the Intrepid 40 as the spark, we break down how PHRF works—seconds per mile, rating differences, and why two boats (and two skippers) can finish together but never agree on the result. This is accidentally educational sailing content: part nostalgia, part explanation, and part friendly (mostly) rivalry. Whether you’re a cruiser, racer, or just here for the banter, welcome to BoatFools Sailing. 👉 Subscribe for real-world sailboat reviews, racing stories, and honest boat-buying advice—no yacht-broker fluff. This wasn’t the plan. …but it happened anyway. A quiet morning turned into conversations that lasted all afternoon. A swim became a memory. A passing shadow in the water became a whale shark. A sunset coffee stretched into music under the stars. No strict schedule. No rushing to the next stop. Just space — for the unexpected. Sometimes the best parts of a journey aren’t written on the itinerary. They unfold between the lines. #UnscriptedTravel #NoItinerary #KomodoJourney #SlowTravel #LifeAtSea #OceanMoments #SailingIndonesia #EditorialTravel #LiveaboardLife #SeaStories #KomodoBeyond 👍 If you found this video interesting, don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE for more adventure in Indonesia through Indonesian eyes!
