The Leopard 47 was designed and build for blue water cruising, and can easily achieve 200 mile days in the trade winds. Built in South Africa, where boats are built to withstand the often harsh conditions off-shore. We just got back at the end of June from a 2000 + mile sail from Grenada to Florida. Before we left we did so much work upgrading, replacing and adding to this boat that was meant to be our forever home. Life happens and things change. We caught up with Team Loustic SuperSonic waiting out the weather at the John Wayne Marina. They told us all about their hull and deck coming apart. The deck is attached with pop rivets and many of them failed along one side for about two meters of the seam—when they realized the boat was acting sluggish, they looked inside to see at certain tacks, waves of water coming in filling the boat with about 100 gallos of water. They have since repaired it quite nicely and they're drying off all their gear, ready to go on. The boat otherwise handled really well.
