Two dive flags - similar purpose, but not exactly the same meaning. The red-and-white diver-down flag is commonly used in the United States to warn that divers are in the water nearby. The blue-and-white Alpha flag is an international navigation signal. Its official meaning is: “I have a diver down. Keep well clear at slow speed.” Under the Navigation Rules, Alpha is also used when diving operations restrict a vessel’s ability to maneuver. The simple takeaway: Red and white - divers are in the water nearby. Alpha - a vessel has a diver down; keep well clear at slow speed.
