In this video, I fly Mira Slovak’s original Bücker Jungmann, a legendary German-designed WWII-era biplane with an unbelievable backstory. Miroslav “Mira” Slovak was a Czech Airlines pilot who hijacked his own plane in 1953 to flee the Soviet regime, eventually becoming a U.S. citizen, air race champion, and aerobatic pilot. We took this 1930s warbird to the skies for a day of vintage aerobatics, tailwheel flying, and breathtaking air-to-air shots. Our #sailing adventure in #newyork was a unique and challenging experience. Aside from being a bustling #harbour with much marine traffic, the harbour is affected by tidal currents—two floods and two ebbs every day. Learning the current patterns to plan your sail into the harbour is essential, especially if you want to sail up the East River and into the Long Island Sound.
