GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community. Det växte fram ur en känsla som blev starkare och starkare. Att livet vi levde inte riktigt gav oss det vi längtade efter mest, tid tillsammans. Vi var så vana vid att acceptera ett system där barnen är borta större delen av sina vakna timmar och där resten av livet ska pusslas in runt det. Först efter ett tag började vi fråga oss: måste det verkligen vara så? Vi började tänka att det kanske finns ett annat sätt att leva. Ett annat sätt att prioritera tid, energi och pengar. Det här är vårt svar på den frågan. Vi har bott på segelbåt i två år nu och kommer fortsätta ett tag till. Det här livet är långt ifrån perfekt, men för oss är det bättre än livet vi levde innan. Och så länge det känns så fortsätter vi. Hittar vi något som passar oss ännu bättre är vi öppna för att tänka om. Vår prioritet är familjen, tid tillsammans och att alla mår bra. Ju längre vi är borta från vårt gamla liv, desto svårare har jag att förstå varför vi hade så bråttom hela tiden. Att vakna med lugn i kroppen istället för att skynda till skolbussar, jobb och fulla scheman har förändrat mycket. Många familjer vi möter här arbetar också, barnen går i skola och har aktiviteter. Skillnaden är friheten. Friheten att ibland byta klassrummet mot en snorkeltur. Friheten att upptäcka nya platser en vanlig tisdag. Friheten att låta barnen vara vakna lite längre för att prata, skratta och umgås tillsammans. Det är inte det enda sättet att leva.
