The Royal Thames Yacht Club's 250th Anniversary was a spectacular affair. With over 250 boats from the latest carbon flyers to beautiful classics that were more than a century old, the four day regatta to celebrate one of the oldest clubs in the world had ticked many of the boxes even before the fleet had turned up. Presented in VIP mode at the Lagoon shipyard in Bordeaux on March 12th, the smallest Lagoon will be setting sail again to circumnavigate Spain and Portugal, bound for La Grande-Motte in the South of France where it will be unveiled to the public for the first time at the IMS. Can this eagerly awaited new model really take the place of the iconic Lagoon 380? We'll soon be able to judge for ourselves, as the shipyard is hopefully offering us the chance to test the two models side by side in June. For now, in Bordeaux, we were able to discover this entry-level catamaran that already offers a lot by opening the way to offshore sailing and offering maximum comfort for its size. Former international basketball player Boris Diaw is the ambassador of this new model, and he can stand up straight in the saloon despite being 6'7½" tall - so that's a good start! Note also that the very aft-set coachroof is reminiscent of the previous generation - and even more surprisingly, the self-tacking solent is once again back in service! In terms of real innovations, the exterior of the hull features a reveal to integrate - and protect - the large portholes. As for the sugarscoops, they offer maximum width to make for easy access when getting aboard and simply invite you to swim when at anchor. ?
