The 2024 season got off to a great start with the annual Strangford Lough Spring Series hosted by the Quoile Yacht Club. With the switch to the new YTC Handicap there was a good fleet of boats push for the win in both the Spinnaker and non Spinnaker devisions. With the sun shinning and light and shifty breeze at the top end of the lough it was a tricky day for the team on GTR, who ended with a second and 4th to be second overall. It was great to be back on the water after another long winter, looking forward to many more days on the water as the season progresses. The team at Bottom up Boats is more motivated than ever to bring you as much racing content as possible. It was tight racing at the start of the 2022 Bar Buoy Race, A35 Le Basculer lead the fleet out of the narrows. A tight tacking dual between Going to Red, Hijacker and and Le Basculer saw the lead change several times before Going to Red stretched out to decent lead at the fairways mark. As alway the bar buoy race hosted by Strangford Sailing club was a great way to kick of the annual narrows series, more racing to come with 7 boats on the start line in the IRC 1 fleet.

As with most long open ocean passages it’s never a certainty as to when we’ll actually leave. There is currently a very small weather window and it’s looking like we’ll leave Tuesday night (2 days from now). In the mean time, the crew and I are servicing, cleaning, maintaining, organizing, and preparing ourselves and the boat. The plan is to get to Bermuda (3-4 days) and then after a few days sail south to St Martin I’m the Caribbean (5-6 days).
