► Full test in Special Issue N°24 Forever Green: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/trimaran/modx-70-a-revolution-in-recreational-boating ► Winner of Multihull of the Year in the Multiyacht category, the ModX 70 was definitely the multihull not to be missed at La Grande-Motte. This new 100% renewable-energy cruising catamaran has already proven its technological prowess by completing a circumnavigation of Spain without using any fossil fuels. The ModX 70 is equipped with the latest technology, enabling it to operate without a generator on board. To achieve this feat without jeopardizing safety, the MODX 70 designers decided to launch a catamaran large enough to support a very powerful battery bank (230 kWh in fact!) while increasing the potential area of the solar panels - it stretches to 750 square feet (70 m²). The two motors are capable of a 100-mile range. The fully automated rig is perhaps the most amazing feature as the two retractable carbon masts - one on each hull - each support a 1,345 sq ft (125 m²) inflatable wing that can reach 75 feet (23 meters) in height. The build involved using 38% biosourced epoxy resin, 40% recycled PET foam, flax fiber and cork. One last point to highlight: This catamaran of the future is nothing like an uncomfortable prototype—quite the opposite, in fact. The layout is as comfortable as it is well finished. The ModX 70 is an undeniable success that will be remembered in the history of yachting—well done! ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: Ocean Développement Architect: VPLP Length: 70’ (21.33 m) Beam: 32’10” (10 m) Draft: 6’7” (2 m) Air draft: 15’1”/75’6” (4.6/23 m) Displacement: 50,700 lbs (23 t) Upwind sail area: 2 x 1,345 sq ft (2 x 125 m²) Drivetrain: 2 x 40 kW Water: 317 US gal (1,200 l) + recovery system www.modx-catamarans.com ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Adrenaline charged moments as Turn the Tide on Plastic passes inches from spectator boats just behind Hun Hung Kai / Scallywag less than two minutes after start. Turn the Tide on Plastic, one of seven teams in this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race, set sail from Alicante today for the start of the epic 45,000 nautical mile round-the-world race. After months of preparation, British skipper Dee Caffari lead her young crew out of Alicante, Spain on the beginning of what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest adventures of their lives. The start, consisting of a short in-shore circuit before heading offshore to Lisbon, was certainly no disappointment. Filled with action, drama and some of the most intense battles this race has seen at its start, this edition is showing all the signs that it could be the most exciting yet. Of course this is easily said when you’re flying out of Alicante bay in 16 knots of wind battling for third place against some of the best sailors in the world. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ SailingNews TV is the N°1 yachting and sailing channel.
