► Full test in Special Issue N°24 Forever Green: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/trimaran/neel-43-hybrid-electric-propulsion-according-to-emeraude-multicoques ► Also at La Grande-Motte, we looked at a Neel 43 hybrid. But don't bother looking in the options catalog of the La Rochelle-based trimaran shipyard: This “repower” was undertaken by Emeraude Multicoques, the Marseille-based dealer for the Ebro Delta (Spain) brand, which has also become the integrator of the hybrid formula for all Neel boats (new or used) and even other models on request. The installation is particularly neat and is obviously guaranteed by Emeraude Multicoques. It includes a 25-kWh battery and a 25-kW motor powered by 96 V. The range at 6 knots is approximately 10 hours. For recharging, there’s going to be greater reliance on hydrogeneration than solar power, as the surface area of the panels is relatively limited aboard the Neel 43. ► TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: Builder: NEEL-Trimarans Architects: Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group Length: 42’4” (12.9 m) Beam: 24’3” (7.4 m) Draft: 4’11” (1.5 m) Air draught: 62’4” (19 m) Light displacement: 19,850 lbs (9 t) Upwind sail area: 1,098 sq ft (102 m²) Mainsail: 630 sq ft (58.60 m²) Solent: 467 sq ft (43.40 m²) Engine: 50 HP Volvo saildrive ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! HELEN is the first in a remarkable triptych of late 1930s 3rd International Rule 8-Metres drawn by experienced designer to the Rule and Olympic gold medal winning helmsman Sir Thomas Glen-Coats; built on the Clyde in consecutive years at the Mylne family’s Bute Slip Dock Co. yard, where Glen-Coats was a director and major backer. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/765/HELEN They were among the last full keel 8mRs built in Britain and represent the pinnacle of truly classic 8-Metre design. At the end of her initial class-racing days, conversion by her original builder to an able, and of course fast, cruiser-racer kept HELEN very much alive, so that when the 8-Metre Class revival began in the early 2000s, she was a natural subject for restoration and application of the subtle authenticity and performance treatments allowed under the Sira Cup World Championship Rules for boats built before 1960. HELEN is very well equipped and optimised to be competitive at the next major 8mR championship and simply to be enjoyed as a supremely elegant and fleet of foot day/ weekend racer-cruiser.
