From there we take you on a ride to the remote islands of San Andres and Providencia in the middle of the Caribbean Sea which are owned by Colombia, before sailing through the pirate waters of Nicaragua to make landfall at another tiny island paradise north of Honduras! How to save someone that goes overboard and you’ve got both sails up? Without tacking or jibing, you go into a broad reach, bring the sails in tight, and heave-to. The sheets stay as they were. You’re effectively putting the sails over to the wrong side of the boat. By doing this you put the boat in position for the casualty to drift towards the boat and you also stop forward motion. With the engine, you then go forward and backward lining up the casualty along the beam of the boat…waiting for the person to drift down. Have you ever done this kind of MOB procedure? The Whiskey Plank is the final plank required to complete the outer shell of a wooden hull. With this major milestone, it is traditional to take a brief moment to celebrate the mounting of the whiskey plank with a celebration involving shots of whiskey all around... so that’s what we did as we installed the last plank on Hull 1 of the of the LM46!
