Catenary is the natural curve formed by the weight of an anchor chain between the boat and the seabed. That curve helps keep the pull on the anchor low and horizontal, allowing the anchor to remain buried and hold securely. It also cushions sudden loads from wind, waves, and the boat’s movement.
