The figure 8 knot is one of if not the most used sailing stoppers knots. It is easy to tie, provides a decent sized stopper and is relatively easier to untie after load has been applied. For a more detailed tutorial follow the link below. https://youtu.be/jV99J9nmG1g When tying the figure 8 knot it is important pull it really tight, with stiff modern ropes the knot can have a tendency to untie itself if it is only loosely tightened. If you have mastered this knot and would like to learn more the following playlist has more knots for you to know and master. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMoCfFBA9IMUcOoZy5QT-o66DM8uHukkH If you want to know even more knots why not pick up a copy of the definitive book on knots. The Ashley Book of Knot has approximately 3900 different kinds, from simple hitches to “Marlinspike Seamanship.” Mr. Ashley has included almost everything there is to know about them. Precisely named and classified (some new ones for the first time officially), they can be easily found in the big index. He tells when they appeared, something about their history, and what they are good for. . https://amzn.to/3fkisle We hope you enjoyed todays video, thanks for stopping by and supporting Bottom up Boats, as an amazon associate we get commission from associated sales. J109 GTR beating up the shore to stay out of the tide shortly after the start of the Harbour Race of Cork Week 2024. With over 100 boats on the start line everyone was fighting for air shortly after the start, with the tide coming in all day it paid to get right early to find both clear air and some relief from the stronger tide out in the main channel. The skipper on RS 21 Dark and Stormy was not happy with the call as they wanted to head in further, we are glad they tacked when they did as we got down to less the 3 feet under the keel shortly after the tack. The team at Bottom Up Boats hope you like this short clip from our week of racing at Volvo Cork Week 2024

We install an engine kill cable on our sailboat, but it needed to be mounted at a 45 degree angle on a vertical surface.
