The Solaris 64 RS (2020, 2.90m keel) exhibits robust sailing characteristics, driven by a stiff hull and twin rudders for stable performance and light helm response. Sail handling is optimized for ease with a self-tacking jib, electric winches, and an optional in-boom furling mainsail, contributing to its 239 m² reference sail area. Propulsion is provided by a VOLVO PENTA D4-180 engine. The interior features a comfortable, open-plan saloon and galley, illuminated by ample natural light, finished in old oak. The well-equipped galley includes substantial refrigeration and specific appliances. Accommodation provides for six guests: two in the forward master cabin and four in two aft twin-bed guest cabins, each with an ensuite.

The bird Island race was also the first test for the new bow pole extension for Anthony Bell’s Perpetual Loyal recently completed by the McConaghy team in Sydney. Racing back from Bird Island on Saturday afternoon Perpetual Loyal launched the new A2 Spinnaker which was delivered by North Sails in Mona Vale on Saturday morning. Measuring over 1000m2 in area the new sail and longer bow pole combination will help Perpetual Loyal surf her way to Hobart with pro surfer Sally Fitzgibbons at the helm. Video here. How to save someone that goes overboard and you’ve got both sails up? Without tacking or jibing, you go into a broad reach, bring the sails in tight, and heave-to. The sheets stay as they were. You’re effectively putting the sails over to the wrong side of the boat. By doing this you put the boat in position for the casualty to drift towards the boat and you also stop forward motion. With the engine, you then go forward and backward lining up the casualty along the beam of the boat…waiting for the person to drift down. Have you ever done this kind of MOB procedure?
