In September 2019, American Magic’s DEFIANT became the first AC75 to both sail and foil on the waters of Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. Since then, the first of two AC75’s to be built for the U.S. America’s Cup Challenger has been in a “shakedown” phase, where the complex and cutting-edge systems have been tested and refined. Also part of this groundbreaking period has been the shakedown of the human element; the training of some of the world’s first AC75 sailors. American Magic’s team of grinders, trimmers, and other specialists have been recruited from the best of Olympic, foiling, and previous Cup classes, but sailing onboard DEFIANT is unlike anything else.

La sveglia stamattina suona molto presto, alle 4:00 per l’esattezza. Oggi Patri, Isa ed Enri torneranno a casa, facendo un luuungo viaggio. La seconda sveglia (quella delle 7:30) suona anche lei troppo presto, ma tocca alzarci. Un bel caffè e via con la giornata lavorativa. Durante le pause abbiamo fatto qualche attività tipicamente terricola, cioè fatto la spesa, la lavatrice, riempito i serbatoi etc. Domani ripartiremo verso il nord della Guadalupa. A domani! C

Pour battre le record, détenu depuis le 25 décembre 2016 par Thomas Coville en 49 jours 3 heures 4 minutes et 28 secondes, François Gabart devra couper la ligne d’arrivée avant le 23 décembre à 13h09 (heure française) sur son trimaran MACIF. En plus de travailler sans relâche pour faire avancer son trimaran de 30 mètres le plus rapidement possible, il devra donc bénéficier d’un enchaînement de conditions météo favorables. More walking along the tiny canals in Wat Tha Phra, Bangkok. As we chose to visit Thailand during the Thai New Year festivities, we were not spared the clay and water - a great tradition. It used to be a quiet and kind ritual of gently sprinkling perfumed water as a blessing, only after permission. As our host would tell us. Nowadays, water is thrown at anyone passing by with cups, water guns and buckets. Still, unique, colorful, loud and with a smile - the new Thai way.
