Welcome to Gramvousa Island, the first landfall when sailing from the Peloponnese to Crete. This island is renowned not only for its breathtaking beaches and historic Venetian fortress but also for the mysterious shipwreck rusting along its shore. The wreck is that of the Dimitrios P, a cargo ship that ran aground near Gramvousa in January 1968. The exact cause of the stranding remains a topic of speculation. Some suggest the ship was overwhelmed by severe weather and rough seas, while others believe it was abandoned by its crew due to mechanical issues. Whatever the true story, today the wreck forms an iconic image in the turquoise waters surrounding the island.

Tucked inside the sheltered coves of Göcek lies a place where legend and landscape blend into magic—Cleopatra’s Bath Bay. According to local lore, this stunning bay once hosted a Roman bath gifted to Cleopatra herself. The ruins of the ancient structure still rest in the shallow waters, gently embraced by pine-covered hills and crystal-clear sea. It’s not just a stop—it’s an experience. A swim among half-sunken stones. A moment of stillness where history feels alive. A favorite anchorage for sailors exploring the Fethiye–Göcek route. Not just because it’s beautiful—but because it reminds us how the sea connects past and present. 🌊 Sail to stories. When the sailing weather does not cooperate, we make up for it. We had gone out for a morning sail and returned in early afternoon due to rain and lack of wind. We stopped at Lighthouse Inn in Solomons for lunch. Monica and I enjoyed some fresh oysters on the half shell and some raw oyster shooters. Toni never had an oyster shooter so we encouraged her to try one and make a Moment in Time. See how she did.
