You guessed it, the New 41, whose real name we’ll soon find out, is positioned from the outset as one heck of a challenger in the 40-foot market. It features the brand’s signature dual helm/sail maneuvering station, a large sun-lounging area on the bimini and another one forward of the coachroof, a large surface area of solar panels (producing 2 to 2.3 kWp), a large opening hatch at the forward end of the nacelle and slightly angled aft berths. The boat we tested was equipped with an electric powertrain, which enabled us to cruise as far as the island of Ile d’Aix without generating any carbon emissions. As standard, the internal combustion option remains available. An explosion of brokerage activity in late 2020 resulted in December becoming the second strongest single month for brokerage sales since 2009. The brief easing of coronavirus restrictions seen in the latter half of 2020 gave people a chance to inspect superyachts, spurring activity. Greg Gheraia director of BLACKORANGE SuperYacht Experts says that the lockdowns "really made us think about life and spending more time with loved ones. If you were thinking about buying a super yacht before the pandemic then in 2020 you were buying a superyacht.” Most clients were simply looking for some freedom after various lockdowns. Having more time on their hands was also a contributing factor to the sales surge.
