We skied 8.5 km into the backcountry of Gros Morne National Park—and before we reached the fjord, we had a quiet encounter with a moose in the snowy woods. Then we rounded the corner and saw 1,700-foot ice cliffs towering above the frozen pond. Winter in Newfoundland never disappoints. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! A lot of people didn’t think I could pull this off – and honestly, I did want to quit a few times..But the old one was ruined, professionals had a 2-year waitlist, and I figured… why spend the money when I might be able to do it myself?💰💰 To everyone who thought it couldn’t be done – well, it could 💁🏼‍♀️ Did I spend almost 4 months doing it? Yes, along other projects that needed attention. Is it perfect? Nope! It’s not perfect. Some seams are crooked (like so many other things on a boat), I’ve unpicked and resewn more times than I can count, and I even made a whole new sprayhood after the first one was a total disaster🔥 But now it’s finished. And it’s d4mn special.Stubbornness and support from good people really can take you far - so thanks to all who actually believe in the project. This cockpit enclosure is uniquely ours – and just the way it’s supposed to be! - 17 days, let’s go!!!
