We take the tension out of the Windlass for 3 main reasons. 1. To protect the windlass from the constant pressure to the bearings 2. To secure that the chain will not slip out because of to much tension 3. To avoid having annoying metallic noises during the night sleep For that reason we use the bridal and the stabber as I show you on that video
