SW108#03 is taking shape, with the hull and bulkheads successfully laminated, marking a significant milestone in the construction process. The SW108-3's full carbon hull, deck and bulkheads, together with a high modulus carbon mast and boom, a lifting keel (4-6.2m) and titanium deck fittings, offer a displacement of 74.2 tons, making her a formidable sailing machine. I wanted to show you exactly how a boat anchor behaves on the sea floor. I found a nice popular anchorage where the tide had gone out, exposing the same sandy bottom that the boats in the distance are anchoring in, so we can see exactly what is going on, without the sea being in the way. If you measure the distance from the bow roller to the seabed at high tide, and pay out at least five times that much chain, which is known as 5:1 scope, the anchor should untangle itself and reset in most situations.
