Gaetano è nato il 7 luglio 1968 a Cala Gonone sulla costa orientale della Sardegna dove ha sempre vissuto; qui il rapporto con la natura è la vita stessa, e al mare Gaetano ha consacrato la sua esistenza, nell'appassionato incontro tra lavoro, sogno e avventura.Dove è nato Gaetano non esistono circoli velici e manca una tradizione di vela. La sua carriera in mare incomincia presto quando si imbarca come mozzo sui pescherecci, poi come comandante sul trasporto passeggeri di piccolo cabotaggio. A vent'anni acquista il Dovesesto un fatiscente veliero d'epoca di 23 metri col quale, una volta restaurato, si guadagnerà da vivere (un'innovativa esperienza imprenditoriale) facendo charter e sarà la scuola della sua vita. Autodidatta per forza di cose ha imparato la vela da solo, trasformando la sua passione in impegno concreto attraverso studio e determinazione imparando a comprendere il vento onnipresente nella sua isola. Poi le regate lungo l' Oceano, una conquista dopo l'altra. La sua vocazione è la navigazione in solitario, quella che gli è più congeniale per la quale sente di avere una predisposizione fisica e mentale. La sua ultima impresa è la partecipazione alla Transat 2009. Nel 2011 ha progettato "gironelmondo" e dal 2012 inizia l'attività con BET 1128 Saling Team. Partecipando alla Palermo Montecarlo dove vince nella sua classe, poi la Middle Sea Race dove conquista il secondo posto. Here is an update on the sewing project 🔊 Five days in, and the cockpit enclosure is really starting to take shape! ✂️🪡 This week, we finished cutting all the fabric, sewed in (almost) all the windows, and added zippers to the bimini for a proper fit. The sprayhood is also coming together—we rigged up a rope system through the cove molding (am I even saying it right???) to help tension it. Next week: another test fitting! Stay tuned to see how it all comes together. 🫣🤞

Kiel war der Startpunkt des The Ocean Race Europe 2025 – und setzte gleich zu Beginn ein eindrucksvolles Zeichen. Fünf Tage lang verwandelte sich die Kieler Förde in eine Bühne für Hochsee-Segelsport, gelebten Meeresschutz und ein internationales Miteinander. Zwischen dem 6. und 10. August kamen hunderttausende Menschen an die Kiellinie, um die IMOCA-Boote aus nächster Nähe zu erleben, die Crews bei spannenden Showrennen und dem großen Leg Start anzufeuern und Teil eines außergewöhnlichen maritimen Festivals zu sein. Fast die Hälfte aller Besucher*innen des gesamten Rennens war schon in Kiel dabei – ein starkes Zeichen für die Bedeutung der Stadt Kiel im Segelsport.
