Hello all new viewers! My name is Maya, and my husband is Aladino. Our home is Magic Carpet, a Vindo 32 sailing boat (which is actually only 28ft) that Aladino completely rebuilt following a devastating accident. We are now on a mission to sail around the world as slowly as possible. We'd like to take you with us. We post new videos every week, usually on the weekends. We fell in love with sailing and with each other. Sailing is what we'd be doing even if YouTube didn't exist. However, YouTube and Patreon have provided us with the unparalleled opportunity to make friends with other sailors from around the world. We love reading your comments, sending you handwritten letters in the post, and meeting you in person. If you'd like to connect with us, you can leave us a comment, send us an email, or contact us via Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/user?u=13249792. If you do decide to become a patreon, we'll personally thank you. It's you that make these videos possible –– literally. With love and excitement, Maya and Aladino Check out Maya’s music on Spotify and iTunes! Squall lines can quickly triple the amount of wind you’re dealing with and have the potential to do damage if you’re caught unprepared. Once the squall hits, preparation is over and it’s up to reactive seamanship skills. While your strategy should depend on many factors (your boat, sea conditions, proximity to land, etc.) here are a few things that are helpful in most circumstances: 1. Reduce sail area early. Considering dropping sails entirely depending on conditions. 2. Ensure the crew puts on proper gear such as Lifejackets, Foul weather jackets, tethers, etc. 3. Take note of where you are & where you were sailing to. Be aware of any nearby shoals or reefs. 4. Prepare for poor visibility. Turn on running lights, monitor VHF ch16, have an airhorn accessible, etc. What else would you add to this list?
