We decided to quit chasing the "American dream" and instead become students of the world as we travel with our two youngest kids on a sailing catamaran. Join us as we make our way south to Grenada, and reunite with what is arguably the best cruising community in the world. Please subscribe and click the bell so you will be notified when we upload new vlogs. On April 10, 2019, AVEIA made a Champagne Mimosa Cruise from Olowalu, Maui to Diamond Head, Oahu matching the old race record time from Honolulu Bay, Maui while barefoot, lounging in beanbags in the forward trampoline and sipping champagne mimosas! Smooth fast sail. Major highlight of a long sailing career! What fun! Join us for a sail sometime in Oahu or Maui on special occasions. www.HawaiiCatamaranSailing.com
The full review of the M.9, the prototype of the M.10, is out! You can order it here: https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/m9-m10-s-prototype-a-100-electric-powercat or read it for free if you are a Multihulls World subscriber. The M9 electric powercat - built in St Malo, Brittany, then assembled and completed in Caen, on France’s Channel coast - made its public debut in the Mediterranean. But what’s so special about this new model? Its two-sided solar-powered wings, that unfold when under way: the photovoltaic cells facing the sea thus capture the sun’s reflection from the surface of the water. In total, the solar installation is capable of producing 6 kWp, a considerable figure for a catamaran just over 30 feet in length. At 6 knots, range is unlimited - during the day, weather permitting. The second remarkable technological innovation is the car-like control interface. The on-board computer controls all the settings and manages the virtual anchor system: the motors are connected to the GPS position to “hold” the boat without the need to drop an anchor. A third point worthy of note: when folded, the solar wings, together with removable glass panels and canvas sections, transform the central part of the powercat into an enclosed space measuring 130 square feet (12 m²), called the deck cabin. The table in the saloon can be lowered, and cushions added, to create a double 4’7” (1.4 m) berth. The interior is cozy and include a galley. In the hulls, there are two cabins and a heads compartment. The foredeck is fitted with a trampoline, which is lighter than a rigid deck. At the stern, the yard has designed two bathing platforms. The famous ‘penguin slide’ on The Snares Islands always delivers a wildlife spectacle! Navigating this near-vertical granite slope is no easy task – just ask this New Zealand Sea Lion, whose rapid descent coined the phrase “penguin bowling” on our February ‘In the Wake of Scott & Shackleton’ voyage to Antarctica. Thanks to our friend Neale Frazer for capturing and sharing this incredible moment! #SnaresIslands #SubantarcticIslands #AdventureTravel #Wildlife #animalfails #penguin Filmed in accordance with the Department of Conservation's Minimum Impact Code for the Subantarctic Islands.
