Ahoy! Sailing bliss or disaster? We're leaving the Eagle Point marinara a raw sail downwind to our marina in Lake Dallas. Cyndi and I have come this far to try our hand at a downwind wing-on-wing sail plan, after an easterly beam reach, then a westward sail. We had a great time practicing the training run and the down-wind sail setup. We leave our old friend, Sneaky Pete's Grill, and Eagle Point Marina behind and press forward, sailing back to Lake Dallas in our Catalina C-30 Tall Rig sailboat named Zanadu! The finish to Race 3 of the annual Narrows Regatta on Strangford Lough was a quick reach to the finish after the breeze picked up and pivoted 180 degrees. It was next to impossible for the J109 GTR to match it with the VX1 Sports boats which blasted past on the way back to Portaferry. The leading VX1 was in complete control as it fought to stay flat while keeping the spinnaker up to avoid having to drop which would have made for a much slower run to the finish. The J109 GTR could not compete in this race but went on to take the overall series win with a consistent performance across the weekend.
