Is it safe to sail in a deep canyon? Sure! If you watch the wind and weather closely, have the right equipment, and familiarize yourself with how mountainous terrain affects the wind. Also, always carry the appropriate safety gear and practice your emergency and storm skills (man overboard, hove-to, reefing, anchoring, etc.) This is me solo sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat in Utah's stunning Flaming Gorge along the Green River.
