Quick test of a tiny QEV cannon firing air at 12atm, viewed through a Schlieren setup (no razor blade). Unedited at normal speed. I didn't quite understood the need for a razor blade but without one I still see the flow of air. For me, the razor blade just makes the dot of light smaller(?) If anyone can clarify me what the razor blade really does and where it should be placed (in the source of light or in the camera) I'd really appreciate. Also important to note that this is AWESOME to look with the naked eye but almost the dimmest light can blind you. I covered a tiny LED torch with aluminum foil and punctured a hole with a sewing needle, on the side! so that the LED doesn't bright directly through the hole. Take care with the eyes!!
► The Fédération des Industries Nautiques (France’s Nautical Industries Federation), which brings together the majority of French manufacturers in the sector, has just released its figures for the 2022/2023 financial year and has indicated the trends for 2024 at a press conference held on a barge at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The survey acknowledges there was a post-Covid boom period, with new yacht registrations showing a sharp decline of 23.1% compared to the 2021/2022 period. This drop mainly affects the dayboat motor market for boats under 7 m/23 feet (down 27%) as well as the monohull sailboat sector from 9 to 16 m/30 to 52 feet (down 28%), both of which are struggling to cope with the increasingly attractive multihull offer – this growing by 5%, buoyed by the dynamism of power multihulls. There is also a growing interest in river and inland waterway cruising - a sector where multihulls could gain a foothold. According to the FIN, these figures for the French market also reflect those for Europe and even for the world market as a whole. As for 2024, according to Jean-Paul Chapeleau, the vintage promises to be one of “Market readjustment and a return to normal”. Multihulls World couldn’t stay put after the press conference: despite the rain, we took the helm of an Aura 51 Smart Electric that had been chartered by Toyota as VIP support for the Olympic Games. This catamaran from the Dream Yacht fleet was skippered by two crews selected by Capt’n Boat – and they now know the waterways of Paris like the back of their hand! ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! When parrotfish sleep at night, they often secrete a mucus "sleeping bag" around themselves for protection from predators. The bags also have antibiotic properties that are beneficial for the fish. There are over 30 species of parrotfish on the Great Barrier Reef and you are usually guaranteed to see these magnificently coloured creatures swimming over the corals. They all share a few common traits, the most obvious being their teeth. Parrotfish evolved from the carnivorous wrasse family, but through the course of time, their teeth have moved forward on the jawbone and reduced in size. Eventually, the teeth fused together creating a very useful tool for scratching algae off the surface of the coral. Filmed at Norman Reef recently, check out this video clip of a parrotfish tucked away for the night while the coral spawns. Vision courtesy of Satoshi Kagimoto, Indepth Video.
