Born into an aristocratic air of racy intrigue, SUMURUN’s charms have wooed a select band of suitors since her launch at Fairlie. A legend in many lifetimes, SUMURUN is one of the most exquisite of William Fife’s large ‘fast cruisers’. For almost 110 years this 94ft ketch, formerly yawl, has been in commission and loved, most recently by the current owners who treated SUMURUN to a major 2017-2019 refit at Chantier du Guip. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/686/SUMURUN Return to classic racing late in 2019 was triumphant, with victory at Saint-Tropez. Rigged as a bermudan ketch since 1935, this handy configuration was retained but brought subtly up to date by Juan Kouyoumdjian. The idea for Sunset Sailing Tours came June 2nd 2019 20pm at Cais do Sodré, Lisboa, Portugal. Sailboats went back and forth at the harbor full of people. I could do that also! But not going back and forth at the harbor. I would do it with style sailing around the city or trips to islands.

100 meters to the finish, we’re holding third place — then suddenly, the sound of the rudder chain snapping, and the yacht luffs sharply into the wind. The skipper stayed calm and acted fast, inserting the emergency tiller into the rudder stock to regain direct control of the rudder blade, bypassing the wheel. Thanks to the quick response, the yacht lost only a few positions and still crossed the finish line successfully. Back in the marina, technicians from the charter company were called in. They repaired the system and installed a new steering chain.
