What do you actually do 100 miles from land with zero connection? 🌊⚓ After 4 months completely off-grid in PNG, we started our crossing. Ocean passages are a forced meditation—no internet, no distractions, just the horizon. But the silence didn't last. In the main episode, the peace is shattered. As we finally cross into the Solomon Islands, our sail RIPS, leaving us vulnerable in the open sea. This is the raw, unpolished reality of boat life. A small sailboat surges ahead and overtakes a much larger yacht — but the wake hits hard! The crew leans out for balance as the boat rocks and sprays water everywhere. Captured from drone/mast camera in beautiful sunlight and crystal ocean color. Skill, speed, and pure excitement on the water! --- #Sailing #YachtRacing #SmallBoatBigAction #SailingLife #OceanSpray #GoProSailing #DroneFootage #Regatta #BoatLife

So good to have these memories from April while lying in a hospital bed for a week in May. We are truly looking forward to getting back to our boating life. #liveaboard #sailboatlife

It was two years ago in May. I was teaching an instructional passage, and we were in Bermuda waiting for weather to allow us to continue north to Newport. Of course, we knew that the America’s Cup was happening. Still, the absolute mind-boggling spectacle of seeing those boats…..doing that! As we entered the outer bay near Hamilton, there, right in front of us, was Oracle, sitting in the water, getting coached up by her chase boats. Now not more than 40-50 yards away, the crew trimmed in the wing sail. The boat lurched a little, started moving….then bam! Like the Starship Enterprise in the Star Trek movies, it popped up, onto its’ foils, and was off at nearly 40 knots. Warp speed Scotty!
